A beautiful printed report can become a terrible spreadsheet.
Think About the Destination Early
We consider whether users need sortable columns, clean rows, predictable grouping, and minimal merged or repeated layout artifacts.
Presentation and Export Are Different Goals
A layout optimized for paper may use visual tricks that Excel does not appreciate. Sometimes we need a dedicated export-friendly design or a cleaner report structure.
We Aim for Fewer Obstacles
Where practical, we minimize unnecessary subreports and structural complexity so the export has a better chance of arriving in Excel as usable data instead of confetti.
Not every Sage report can export perfectly. But “Excel hates this” is not a reason to stop trying.
