“Those two reports don't tie” is one of the most useful sentences a client can give us.
First Define What Should Match
Not every Sage report is designed to produce the same total. We identify the accounting relationship first.
Then Reduce the Scope
Which period? Which account? Which module? Which batch? Which source journal? Which date range?
The smaller the valid comparison becomes, the easier it is to see where the stories diverge.
Timing, Filters, and Posting Status Matter
A report can be correct and still disagree with another report because it includes different dates, unposted activity, different account ranges, or different selection criteria.
If They Should Tie, Keep Going
We are persistent about this because financial reports are supposed to support decisions. A number nobody can explain is not finished work.
