Templates can also include activity codes, work centers, tool codes, budget values, scaling and scheduling parameters, materials, and attachments such as drawings, images, or specifications.

Production Management tracks the costs and progress associated with producing finished goods through work-in-process tracking.

Sage documents multiple cost-completion methods as well as manual, automatic, and backflush methods for labor and material issues. Dynamic labor and material options can also allow real-time updates to those production quantities.

That flexibility matters because manufacturers do not all record production the same way. The system needs to reflect how material and labor actually move through the operation rather than forcing every shop into one accounting ritual.

  • Inventory: production consumes material and produces finished or subassembly items inside the broader inventory environment.

That is why manufacturing questions often cross module boundaries. The symptom may appear on a work ticket while the real dependency is purchasing, inventory, payroll, a bill, or the way costs are being assigned.

Production Management is built to capture the labor and material activity that turns inventory into a manufactured item.

Sage has continued to refine that costing model. In Sage 100 2025.0, for example, Production Management added the ability to define a standard cost rate per piece for an activity code, alongside hourly costing.

That is a small-sounding enhancement with a practical purpose: not every activity is best measured by time. Sometimes the meaningful unit is the thing produced.
